Amazon's Great Indian Festival and Myntra's Big Fashion Festival open on the same day. What each has announced for fashion, and a simple plan for buying clothes you'll actually wear.

India’s two biggest online fashion sales open on the same day this year. Amazon says its Great Indian Festival starts for all customers on 8 October 2026, with early deals already running. Myntra’s Big Fashion Festival also opens on 8 October, with early access from 7 October for members of its Insider programme and holders of its VIP ticket. If you’ve been waiting to replace basics or buy something for Diwali and the wedding season, this is the week. It’s also the week when it’s easiest to buy things you don’t need.
What happened
Amazon announced its sale on its official India news site. For fashion and beauty it promises discounts of “up to 80%”, new launches starting at ₹1,099 from brands including HRX, Snitch and Latitude by Provogue, denim under ₹899 from Levi’s, WROGN and Flying Machine, and up to 55% off sneakers and formal shoes from brands such as Hush Puppies, Woodland and U.S. Polo Assn. It also lists a 10% instant discount with SBI cards. Amazon did not give an end date in the announcement we read.
Myntra says this edition of the Big Fashion Festival carries more than 8 million styles, which it describes as twice the previous edition, along with 100+ new brand launches and around 21,000 emerging labels, about 13,000 of them taking part for the first time. Categories it highlights include men’s ethnic and casual wear, women’s western and ethnic wear, beauty, watches, jewellery and sports footwear.
Why it matters
Two big sales on the same day mean real price competition, especially on the mass brands that both platforms carry. They also mean more noise. “Up to” discounts describe the best deal in a category, not a typical one, and a long list of launches tells you little about quality. The shoppers who come out ahead are the ones who decide what they need before the sale opens.
What it means for fashion
The number of new and emerging labels on Myntra, and the push of new launches on Amazon, show that both platforms now compete on choice as much as on price. For you that means more options in the ₹500–₹1,500 range for everyday clothes, and more brands you’ve never heard of. That’s not a bad thing, but it makes fabric, fit and returns more important than the logo.
Style implications: a plan that works
- Write a short list before 8 October. Open your wardrobe and note what you actually reach for and what’s worn out. For most men that’s a white or light-blue shirt, a pair of chinos that fit, clean white sneakers and a belt. Buy those first.
- Buy pieces that work with three things you already own. If a new shirt only goes with one pair of trousers, skip it, however cheap it is.
- Check the fabric line, not just the photo. For shirts and tees, cotton or cotton-linen breathes far better in Indian weather than mostly-polyester blends. The composition is listed in the product details.
- Read the size chart and the return policy. Measure a shirt or trousers that fit you well and compare. Check that the item can be returned or exchanged before you pay.
- Look at what you pay, not the percentage. A ₹1,299 shirt at “60% off” is still ₹1,299. Decide in advance what a good price is for each item on your list.
- Festive outfit? Build it around one piece. A good kurta or a jacket does the work. Keep the trousers and shoes simple so you can wear them again.
